The Legal Awareness Program is a new initiative of the Rajasthan Education Trust with the objective of making everyday citizen aware as to how India’s legal system affects them – their legal rights and duties under the Constitution and all other laws. It is based on the book “Hum Padoo Samjo Apne Kanoon”.
The program adopts an inclusive and outreach-oriented approach, consciously extending its reach both urban and rural/marginalized communities, where access to legal knowledge is limited and often inaccessible.
Under the LAP, comprehensive legal awareness modules on different topics have been prepared. These modules have been prepared by legal interns under the guidance of qualified lawyers associated with the Rajasthan Education Trust. Through collaborations and outreach engagements, the program actively interfaces with educational institutions (including non-law students), community groups, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
By fostering legal literacy, enhancing civic awareness, and nurturing a culture of informed participation, the Legal Awareness Program seeks an educated and enlightened common citizen. Access to basic legal knowledge is not merely a lawyer’s privilege, but a fundamental enabler of justice, empowerment, and democratic values.
